Kaiser Residence
The apartment is located in 860 United Nations Plaza, which is a co-op consisting of twin 38-story towers on top of a 6-story office building which opened in 1966. The building contains a total of 336 apartments (of which 56 are duplexes on the top eight floors) with nine foot ceilings, oversized windows and commanding unencumbered views overlooking the United Nations and the East River.
At the time the building was constructed, it was the most expensive co-op ever built in the city, at $37.5 million. The cost of apartments at the time cost as much as $179,000.
The building features 7 foot tall windows, Carrara marble bathroom walls and floors, 18 feet long kitchens and an air-conditioning system that emits cool or warm air in any room on any day of the year.
Mr. Kaiser died August 24, 1967 at the age of 85.
